Workshop
ABC BAU: From transmission to performance
13 March 2015
ABC-Bau1-624x398

The works of set design produced during the historic experience of the Bauhaus have contributed to form plastic, visual and choreographic paradigms that are an inherent part of artistic modernity. These works deserve to be explored and carefully studied. Through investigation of archival materials on the productions of Oskar Schlemmer during his years of work at the Bauhaus, the procedures of development of those works, their genealogy and reception, will be studied. The collective dynamic of this research will move from a careful iconographic and art historical analysis to the practice of reconstruction and reenactment of Schlemmer’s scenic works. All these elements will contribute to building a knowledge of the materials studied but also to exercise that artistic practice that has always attempted to free itself of the ruling formats that control cultural expression and govern social life. Thanks to the contribution of artists, choreographers and art historians, this workshop opens to experimentations that cannot be explained a priori, because they have not yet been imagined, analyzed or tested. Experiments are created only through practice. A week of work to make the term “Art” an epistemic and historical device capable of linking works to different contexts. An artistic work that exists in relation to materials and ideas, in which to reconfigure the logic of what is shared and held in common, and to come to terms with notions of production, inscription and purpose.
